On September 15, 2020, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors adopted the 2040 General Plan and certified the project’s Environmental Impact Report and related documents. The adopted 2040 General Plan will become effective on October 15, 2020, thirty (30) days following its adoption by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

May 14 - 23, 2019 | Community Open Houses
The County’s Planning Division hosted a series of open houses where the public had the opportunity to learn about and comment on the Preliminary Public Review Draft of the 2040 General Plan.
The 2040 General Plan is a long-range planning document that will guide land use, resource protection and development through 2040. The 2040 General Plan includes goals, policies and programs on topics including biological and open space resources, climate change, economic vitality, agriculture, water resources, public facilities and other key issues.
Public input provided at the following open houses was shared with the Ventura County Planning Commission during a series of work sessions starting in June and with the Board of Supervisors in August.

March 28 and 29, 2017 | Focus Group Meetings | Review of the General Plan Update Draft Background Report
Focus Group meetings were scheduled to review the Public Review Draft Background Report. All Focus Group meetings were open to the public and following the discussion between Focus Group members, the public was invited to provide comments and ask questions.
All meetings were held at the Ventura County Government Center in the Atlantic Conference Room on the Main Level. The Government Center is located at 800 S. Victoria Ave. in Ventura.

February 16, 2017 | Ventura County Fair
Staff from the County’s Resource Management Agency hosted a General Plan Update booth at the Ventura County Fair from August 3rd thru 14th. The booth was in the Agriculture building alongside exhibits showcasing the county’s natural resources. During the Fair, County staff provided information on the General Plan Update’s purpose, process and ways to get involved. The booth included an exercise that mirrored the activities from the TAC and Focus Group Kick-Off Meeting (April 2016) and Community Workshops (July and August 2016). It also featured informational posters in both English and Spanish.

Ventura County staff and consultants hosted a kick-off meeting for members of the General Plan Update Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Focus Groups. Members received an overview presentation of the General Plan Update work program and separated into breakout sessions that corresponded with the 7 Focus Group topic areas. Information collected in this meeting is summarized in the Assets, Issues and Opportunities Summary Report presented to the Planning Commission during Work Session #3.
